Colour INKspiration Challenge #10 Blog Hop

Welcome back to another Colour INKspiration challenge. We always kick off the challenge with a blog hop where you can get some INKpiration from the Design Crew Members. Make sure you hop around to each blog. This hop is extra special for me - I am sandwiched between 2 of my stamping besties - Kelly Kent and Guest Designer Megan Lenske.

On to the challenge colours. What do you think?

When doing a colour challenge it is sometimes hard to work out which direction to take. Sometimes (no matter how pretty) I have to ignore the inspiration picture so that ideas come more freely. Cajun Craze is one of my go-to watercolouring colours. It has a beautiful depth of colour and allows for great shading. So with that in mind I had to go with the pot in Crafting Forever - one of the sets from the new Stampin' Up! 2017/18 Annual Catalogue. I used the 3 other colours to watercolour the brushes.

I was really happy with how it turned out. It was how I had pictured it in my head. I knew I wanted to do a Centre Step Card and as soon as I saw Kelly's post a few days ago I remembered a variation on this fold that I have in my 'must try one day' file. It is called an Extended Centre Step Card and coincidentally Debbie Henderson used it for our 2nd Colour Challenge way back in January. It is actually a cross between an easel card and a centre step card. I thought it would be perfect for the humid climate I live in. It will stop cards sagging in the humidity. Thanks to Kelly and Debbie for your inspiration.

But here is the funny thing. I made a great card yesterday despite banging my thumb in a drawer and having my very naughty cat insist on sleeping on my Stampin' Scrub. By the way I thought the vet was very mean last week when he called her hefty but..... yesterday it seemed quite fitting. Anyway was so pleased that I was on top of everything only to find out that I had used a wrong colour. Thanks for the heads up Kelly! So this is version one with Bermuda Bay instead of Island Indigo. Thought it was too good to be true that I had matching baker's twine for my peg!

So after a new start this morning I decided that I will follow this sentiment.....

..... and made version 2 - with the correct colour this time!

It was a bit hard to capture but I have added a coat of Clear Wink Of Stella over the Smoky Slate on the brush heads to give a metallic look. The pot lip has a coat of Fine Tip Glue Pen to give a glazed look.

I love this cute peg image and what better way to prop open the card than with a peg wrapped in baker's twine! On my second version I didn't have any matching twine so I simply wet some white baker's twine and picked up some Island Indigo ink from the ink pad lid, smooshed it around and let it dry.

This is the card from side on.

And the inside.

Why not make one yourself? Here is the cutting and scoring diagram for you. If you prefer to use inches Debbie Henderson has fantastic instructions.

INKspired to join the challenge? It's so easy. Firstly, get some INKspiration by hopping around to see what all of the Colour INKspiration Crew have to show you. Then you have 12 days from today to make and upload your creation to the Facebook Colour INKspiration Group. You don't have to have a blog to participate but if you do you can link back to your post. Make sure you use all of the challenge colours. Not a member of the Facebook group yet? Just click here and ask to join Colour INKspiration, add the group to your favourites and share it with your crafty friends so they can join in the fun too. We can't wait to see what you create with these gorgeous colours.

Next up we have our Guest Designer (and my friend) Megan Lenske. Make sure you check out her take on this colour combination. You will love her clever card.

Just Add Ink #360 - Delightful Daisy

I was trying to come up with a simple card design that included a few products and basic techniques to show a friend who is new to stamping. She is coming to my Stampin' Day Retreat that I am running with my 2 stamping buddies Megan Lenske and Peta Stephen on June 10. My plan is to make a couple of cards so she can see how to:
  • Use Stampin' Up! ink pads and stamps
  • Punch stamped images
  • Use a Big Shot
  • And if we feel daring do some 2 step stamping!
  • Oh and use some of the gorgeous new Stampin' Up! ribbon and Designer Series Paper of course!
While I was pondering how to fit this all into a simple card I opened the latest Just Add Ink email and realised the sketch challenge this week would be perfect.
Before I show you what I came up with - apologies - I am teaching myself to use a new photo editing program and think I need a touch more practice!

This is the card I thought we could make first. I stuck pretty closely to the sketch for this one.

Then I added a few extra design elements. Plus I was itching to use my new ribbon! It is so pretty.

So easy to switch up a design and get 2 cards!

And this is a stepped up version that I made - just because!

I have changed the orientation and added a few more elements. I love the new glitter enamel dots and used them in place of the smaller circle in the sketch.

So from 1 sketch came 3 designs.

I love card sketch challenges. They always seem to come at just the right time for me. They are a great starting point for inspiration.

PS - Here is some information about the Stampin' Day Retreat. RSVPs and full payment due this Friday May 26th.

Kylie's International Blog Highlight - Masculine

Today I am participating in another of Kylie Bertucci's International Highlights. The theme this month is Masculine.  Make sure you check out all of the entries here and vote for your favourites. This theme was the perfect way to use one of my new stamp sets from the new Stampin' Up! Annual 2017/18 Catalogue that you can order from on June 1. This stamp set is called Pocketful of Sunshine and is such a fun design. Perfect for a masculine card but even better for a teenage masculine card! Something I struggle with. So this is what I came up with. I turned it into an easel card ..... just because I could!

In Australia you think you are pretty lucky if you get what we call a 'Pineapple' for your birthday. That is $50 to the rest of the world. And if you get 2 .... well ....... you have been good!

There are coordinating thinlits that I can't wait to order on June 1! I have hand cut my stamped images for this card. One of the stamps is of folded money. I have made mine to look like a 'Pineapple' and added them to the pocket ..... to maybe make myself look more generous!

The card closes flat to fit into a standard C6 envelope. I love the detail of the stitching in this stamp set. Thought I would enhance the stitching by using Copper Embossing Powder. I love how raised and shiny it looks.

Another of my favourite new products is the Happy Birthday Thinlit. I have die cut it twice - once in Crumb Cake and once with Copper Foil - to create a shadow effect. Raising it with small pieces of foam adhesive allows the easel part to prop open.

I think that this design is one I will be replicating in different colour schemes. Did you notice the little tab sticking out from the pocket? There are different words to stamp in there. So cute!

Make sure you check out the gallery. You can find the gallery and maybe vote for me here.
